What is Emotional Wellness?
We’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback about using the 8 Dimensions of Wellness to support investments in people and pure potential. One of the questions we’ve received is: What kinds of companies does 8 Dimension Ventures view as essential in building health and wellness?
To answer, let’s take a look at one of the 8 Dimensions – Emotional. Whilst all 8 Dimensions are intimately connected, it’s important we isolate them to assess, build back and move forward.
A healthy approach to Emotional wellness includes understanding one’s feelings and appreciating the attitudes of others. It means managing emotions in a constructive way and being optimistic about your life.
In recent years, mental “illness” has received a lot of publicity. It no longer carries as much stigma, although there is ongoing focus required, and a subtle narrative shift required in the jargon, replacing “illness/health” with “fitness, well-being or wellness”. Emotional Wellness exists in everyone, and by supporting it we can make a huge contribution to humanity.
Here’s an example of a company that fits into the Emotional Dimension, and in which we have personally invested, their take on this dimension is proactive mental fitness.
Fika Mental Fitness is a skills development platform that helps employees to proactively train for their mental fitness. This not only supports people's individual goals, it helps organisations maintain high levels of individual and team performance and foster a positive workplace culture preventing the decline of mental health.
Fika has several components. First of all, it builds mental health literacy by educating people. Secondly, it has tools to help people develop the 7 skills of mental fitness; including, stress management, motivation, and focus. Together, these equip individuals with practical tools and techniques to not just cope but perform well with everyday challenges.
Here’s what one employee had to say about Fika: “I have been using Fika for over a year now, and the way it has developed into the emotional fitness tool available today is incredible. I use it every day – it’s a must have.”
We’d love to get your input. From your experience, what companies offer products and services that are actively encouraging Emotional Wellness?
