Setting a Corporate Culture that values Health & Wellness: Katherine Glassey, Adviser

The senior leaders of a startup face enormous pressure – bringing their product to market, growing revenues and satisfying investors. For many, it’s difficult to maintain personal wellness.

At 8 Dimension Ventures (8DV), we support businesses that are focused on helping both people and the planet. Each must have at its core at least two of the 8 Dimensions – Emotional, Physical, Financial, Occupational, Social, Intellectual, Spiritual and Environmental.

Wellness counts. And for the leaders of companies that 8DV supports, it’s essential.

8DV adviser Katherine Glassey believes that she can play a vital role in helping CEOs to concurrently grow their company and stay healthy. Senior business leaders must set a corporate culture that values physical and mental health. By serving as role models, they encourage all employees to harmonise the 8 Dimensions of Wellness.

“You can experience wellness while working very hard – but you need resources and support to do it,” she says. Boards and investors need to address not just revenue and profit growth, but also whether the CEO and team members are thriving.

Glassey should know. In 1994, she co-founded business intelligence software company Brio Technology, which was later acquired by Oracle. After that, she founded three other companies, and recently focuses her time on investments and guiding startups.

Glassey is excited to be an Adviser with an organisation that has a higher purpose of helping People and Planet. She is hoping to coach startups that are enhancing the wellness of senior citizens. With populations aging across most western countries, ensuring that seniors are healthy will be a growing challenge in the decades ahead. Wellness and prevention of illness are equally as important as developing the next pharmaceutical treatment.

She is a strong proponent of the potential for technological innovation to support sustainability and prevent climate change. She looks forward to working with entrepreneurs who are tackling this vital challenge.
