Creating Value with Social and Emotional Well-Being: Mark Thomson, Adviser
If there is one thing the pandemic has taught us, it’s the importance of health and wellness. As an Adviser with 8 Dimension Ventures, Mark Thomson is excited that the investment fund will be supporting startups that help people to recover their Social and Emotional well-being.
The pandemic has turned the world of work upside down, with many employees discovering a more balanced life at their home office. “A lot of people have been self-reflecting during Covid, realizing that in the past they have put too much emphasis on climbing the corporate ladder – in particular, a focus on the Financial aspect of wellness,” Thomson says.
He notes that, in the wake of the pandemic, many people are considering changing jobs and are searching for a more “meaningful and balanced life.”
As an investment firm, 8 Dimension Ventures will be looking for startups that deliver products and services that help individuals achieve the goals of balancing the 8 aspects of wellness. These are: Intellectual, Emotional, Social, Financial, Spiritual, Occupational, Physical, and Environmental. The company will support solutions that improve both people and the planet.
“Although all 8 Dimensions of Wellness resonate strongly with me, the one that speaks to me the most is Emotional. During the pandemic mental health has been strained. It’s more important than ever to cope effectively and foster relationships.”
Thomson is a highly experienced CFO – so he will be on the lookout for ventures that contribute to wellness whilst providing an outstanding return on investment.
He has transitioned from an executive with technology companies to being an executive coach. In this new role, he is working with business leaders to discuss ways of retaining outstanding employees during a huge shift in what team members are looking for.
“Value is created through human capital,” Thomson states. “It has never been more important for employers to nurture their people and pay attention to health and wellness.”
